Facing Divorce
THRIVING…Not Just Surviving Your Divorce
"Our deepest fear is not that we are
inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask
ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?"
– Marianne Williamson
First of all, KEEP BREATHING. You may feel as if
you have just had the wind knocked out of you. You ask yourself,
"What will happen to me? Will I be alone the rest of my life? What
else can go wrong?"
You never imagined your marriage ending. You
haven’t lived alone since college or when you first left your
parents house. Now you face time as a single parent, or maybe the
time with your kids may be less than you ever wanted. There are
things you have never had to take care of before and now you have to
take care of everything: bills, car repairs, doctor appointments,
carpool, home repairs… Everything
you thought you could count on seems to be crumbling beneath your
feet. Remember, KEEP BREATHING.
Divorce hits men and women in a variety of
ways. Perhaps your husband said he just isn’t happy anymore and
asked for a divorce. Maybe you discovered an affair she was having
and you initiated the divorce. Maybe you have been in couples
counseling and you have both come to the agreement to end the
relationship and you’re not sure how to cope on your own. Regardless
of the circumstances that got you to this point, you are facing a
scary and life changing event.
You may be feeling a whole host of emotions:
-
Anger or
rage
-
Extreme
sadness
-
Confusion
-
Loneliness
-
Mistrust
-
Fear
I
want to help you THRIVE…Not Just Survive your divorce.
Despite what we see on television and in movies, divorce does not
have to be the War of the Roses. You can end a relationship with
integrity and dignity.
